NACE Rev. 2.1 · Section L
Financial and insurance activities
Banks, insurers, brokers and fund managers as B2B prospects: NACE L scope, how regulated buyers decide, which signals matter, and example searches.
What the section covers
Section L covers financial service activities (64), insurance, reinsurance and pension funding (65), and the activities that support them (66). It also includes holding assets: holding companies and financing conduits (64.2) and trusts, funds and similar financial entities (64.3).
Banks (64.19), financial leasing (64.91) and other credit granting (64.92) sit in division 64; life and non-life insurers (65.11, 65.12), reinsurers (65.20) and pension funds (65.30) in 65. Division 66 gathers the many intermediaries and service providers: administration of financial markets (66.11), securities and commodity brokerage (66.12), risk and damage evaluation (66.21), insurance agents and brokers (66.22), other financial intermediaries and advisers (66.19) and fund management companies (66.30).
Compulsory social security is public administration (P 84.30), and buying, selling or renting property is real estate (M 68). Head offices that actually manage their subsidiaries are in N 70.10 rather than 64.21, and operating leases – renting equipment or vehicles – are in O 77.

Coverage
In France (live), companies of this section are found through their NAF code, translated from NACE Rev. 2.1 with INSEE’s official correspondence table. In Germany (pilot), coverage is partial (companies visible in public procurement, larger companies with an LEI) and no activity code is published: any NACE code is inferred by AI and labelled as such. Other countries are planned. See coverage.
Banks, insurers and investment firms are licensed and supervised. Their purchasing is usually centralised at group level, with procurement, security and outsourcing reviews that make decisions slow. The register describes each entity, its officers and its events precisely, but the buyer is rarely the branch or subsidiary you see. Many companies coded 64.21 are personal holding companies with no staff: filter by headcount.
