NACE Rev. 2.1 · Section A
Agriculture, forestry and fishing
Farms, forestry and fishing businesses as B2B prospects: what NACE A covers, the signals worth watching and example searches by crop, herd and region.
What the section covers
Section A covers the use of plant and animal natural resources: growing crops, raising and breeding animals, harvesting timber and other plants, and taking animals or animal products from a farm or from their natural habitat. It also includes support activities done for others on a fee or contract basis – harvesting, crop spraying or shearing contractors (01.6) – as well as hunting and trapping (01.70).
Forestry (02) runs from silviculture to logging, the gathering of wild non-wood products such as mushrooms, berries or cork, and support services to forestry (02.40). Fishing and aquaculture (03) covers sea and freshwater capture, the farming of fish, shellfish and other aquatic organisms, and support activities for fishing and aquaculture (03.30).
The section stops where processing begins. Sawmilling is manufacturing (16.11), as are fish processing (10.20) and the industrial processing of milk or meat (C 10). Cooperatives and traders that market farm produce belong to wholesale (G 46), landscape care to O 81.30, veterinary practices to N 75, and drainage or terracing of farmland to construction (F).
